Bilawal Bhutto Zardari

The chairman

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has led the Pakistan Peoples Party since December 2007, when he was named chairman in the days after the shahadat of his mother, Benazir Bhutto. The eldest child of Benazir Bhutto, and the grandson of party founder Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, he carries the legacy of three generations of the party's leadership.

He studied modern history and politics at Christ Church, University of Oxford, before returning to Pakistan and stepping into full-time political life. He was elected to the National Assembly from Larkana in 2018 and again in 2024, and leads the party alongside the Co-Chairman.

In government

As Pakistan's Foreign Minister from 2022 to 2023, he represented the country through the diplomatic response to the 2022 floods and put climate justice on the world's agenda. As chairman, he has focused the party on youth, jobs, climate resilience and the defence of the 1973 Constitution.

Vision and creed

The chairman leads the party by the same creed it was founded on: faith as a matter of conscience, democracy as the only legitimate politics, an economy built for the many rather than the few, and, above all of it, all power to the people. He describes his own politics as progressive: learning from the party's history, but always asking where Pakistan goes next.

That vision is spelled out in the party's programme, Chuno Nai Soch Ko, its call to choose new thinking. It commits the party to doubling the real incomes of working families, raising the minimum wage year on year toward a living wage, and putting healthcare and education within every citizen's reach. It carries forward Benazir Bhutto's legacy on women's empowerment and defends the provincial autonomy won through the 18th Amendment. In one line, it is the promise this website carries in its masthead: roti, kapra aur makaan for today, and ilm, sehat aur kaam for the generation coming next.

A message for Lahore

To the workers of Lahore, the chairman's message is direct. This is the city where the party was born, and its workers have carried the flag through every democratic struggle since. The tanzeem, from the ward organiser on the street to the divisional leadership, is how the promise of power to the people is kept in practice. Every member registered, every union council organised and every young person given a reason to hope is the movement doing its work.

Lahore and the chairman

Lahore is the party's birthplace, and the chairman's jalsas at Minar-e-Pakistan continue a tradition that runs from his grandfather's founding convention to his mother's historic 1986 reception. He is scheduled to address the Minar-e-Pakistan Jalsa at Greater Iqbal Park on 25 July 2026.
